My approach to yoga is simple – Yoga is for everyone and everyBODY, no matter the size, shape, ability, or age, yoga is perfect for you! If you want a “yoga body,” take your body to your yoga mat and practice.
Over the years, my focus has shifted to a wellness mindset, using yoga as a tool to help us age gracefully. A wellness modality to improve strength, joint mobility, flexibility, and most of all balance. Yoga you didn’t know you needed.
Yoga can be practiced anywhere and at almost any time. I’ll teach you which movements to practice and how to do them safely, so that you can continue your yoga journey outside of class. My yoga classes are so much fun, you’ll want to come back to learn more and join my community of yogis!
My yoga journey began when I started going to yoga classes in 2007 as a way to relax and reduce the effects of stress from a demanding I/T job. Before yoga, I was a stress-ball, ready to implode at any minute. Now, yoga brings me a sense of peace – peace that I didn’t even realize I was missing.
While taking yoga classes, I felt that something was missing from my yoga practice. I had noticed an absence of yoga classes that provided adaptations for curvier students in Wichita Kansas. Many teachers don’t know how to work with folks that don’t fit the stereotypical yoga practitioner mold. In fact, I once had a teacher yell at me for using props! In the middle of a class. That made my decision to become a yoga teacher, stat! I know there are folks shaped like me that are seeking yoga and it became my mission to provide it.
I discovered “Curvy Yoga” and its founder, Anna Guest-Jelley, in Nashville, Tennessee. When Curvy Yoga teacher training sessions became available, I stalked every information call, read all the details over and over, and finally took the plunge in the spring of 2014 to become a certified Curvy Yoga instructor. I knew it was right for me and I knew it would provide me the opportunity to help others out who were seeking the same thing I was. My goal as a yoga instructor is to ensure that everyone, regardless of body type, gets the opportunity to try yoga and learn how to make it work for the body they have today.
In 2020, remember that year? I started an advanced 300 hour teacher training, completed in 2021 and became a Yoga Wellness Educator. Sharing how movement, breath techniques and meditation can help with overall well-being and be beneficial to our aging bodies.
I’m a former I/T Manager for a large trucking company. Married for over 30 years. I love animals and used to volunteer at the Kansas Humane Society. I’m a fur mom to four Siamese cats and two dogs. When I’m not sharing yoga, you’ll find me hanging out with my critters, reading, or out for a walk. I love to travel and my favorite place is the beach.
I hope you take the chance to experience one of my classes before you decide if yoga is right for you or not. I guarantee you’ll leave my class with less stress and more knowledge about your body. Check out my calendar to find a time and class that works for you or book a free one-on-one call with me and we’ll determine your next step. Looking forward to seeing you on the mat!
