CURVY YOGA - Take the first step - join a class

There is stereotypical yoga body type (*insert an exasperated sigh and eye roll here*) - it's a size 2, super slender, 22 year old who is super bendy and can do a crow pose (it's a thing - google it) without requiring surgery to repair their elbows when they inevitably fall over.
Yea, you know what I’m putting down. You wish you fit that mold - Instead you're a 40 something woman that more closely resembles the Michelin man than Kate Moss.
You know you need to start moving more but you can't get that stereotypical vision out of your mind every time you even see a yoga class description in the local rec center booklet.
You muster up the courage to attend a drop in class.
You tried to get your bestie to go with you instead of your usual wine down day Friday weekly vent session but she wasn't interested.
Friday night arrives and you find yourself standing in the parking lot of the rec center.
When you called for more information, they told you what to expect - they told you that you didn't need to bring anything but yourself. They had all the gear you would need.
You laugh to yourself - do they have confidence in a can? That's what you need more than anything right now.
You donned your best leggings and flowing shirt whilst anyone see your mid section. You also packed your 'I can do anything' mindset and got into the car to drive to the rec center.
You return to the here and now - You take a deep breath and pull the door open. The teacher is sitting at the front of the room and there are a few attendees already seated on their mats.
You survey the room, everyone is different sizes and they look a lot more like you than the image you have in your head of what to expect at a yoga class.
Not a size 2 in sight. There are fluffy ladies, some have a few years on you and there are even some couples.
You never thought there would be men there but that makes you think that maybe you and your husband could have a date night at yoga. Maybe he might enjoy it too.
You exhale slowly and walk over to the cupboard where the instructor told you that you could find your mat and blocks.
You realize you are among people who look just like you. At some point, you know chances are they probably had the same concerns about themselves but are working to move past them.
By the end of class you realize that you are starting to focus on how yoga makes you feel and less of how you look. Except maybe during downward dog... everyone looks a little silly doing that pose🙂
